King Mackerel

Hot bite and happy crew! Summer fishing in St. Augustine, FL was in full swing as I took Jody out for a Near Coastal Fishing Trip with Back At It Fishing Charters. We set out early in the morning under clear skies, perfect conditions for an offshore adventure. The water looked promising as we left 220 Nix Boat Yard Rd behind, heading out to our favorite fishing grounds. Back At It Fishing Charters always aims to put our crew on the best bite, and today was shaping up nicely.

With our gear rigged and ready, we started the day trolling for some of the area's prized gamefish. St. Augustine's offshore waters are known for their variety, so we mixed it up with some bottom fishing and live bait tactics too. Our persistence paid off when Jody hooked into a nice King Mackerel. After a good fight, we brought a 27-inch King to the boat - a solid catch that put a smile on everyone's face. The mix of techniques we used really showed off the versatility of fishing these waters.

St. Augustine's offshore scene never disappoints, and today was no exception. Even with just one in our crew, the action was steady enough to keep us engaged throughout our 4-hour charter. As we wrapped up the trip, the clear conditions held, giving us a smooth ride back to the dock. It's days like this that remind me why I love guiding in these waters - there's always a chance for a quality catch and good times on the boat.

Cold Breeze

Winter has arrived in St. Augustine, bringing a change for anglers. The cold weather prompts fish to move to deeper areas, seeking warmth. Anglers need to adapt and explore these spots where fish gather to escape the winter chill.

Sheepshead, commonly found near rocks and pilings, make their winter journey. Anglers use bottom sweeper jigs or sheepshead rigs to catch them, requiring skill and patience.

Redfish prefer shallow waters but stay close to safe spots. Anglers use soft plastic tails on a jig head or a Carolina Rig with cut bait to attract them.

Speckled Sea Trout takes the spotlight in winter. Anglers use live shrimp under a popping cork along grass lines for success.

Navigating St. Augustine's waters, rich in history, every cast becomes part of a fishing story. Anglers join the fish in their seasonal dance, using various techniques.
